First, I would like to say hello and welcome to my blog. I wanted to open up with a post that would give a piece of me. I didn't have much to say about myself. So, I chose a post that would at least express some part of me. You will see a few if not many post on the following subject/person. OK, I'm just going to get right into it.
Oh, where do I start? Should I let you guys know that I probe the 1st lady like I'm the sun and she's the earth? No, that sounds scary. LOL. But, I am, well I don't want to say a fan but an admirer. I appreciate her grace and the way that she handles her plate. Even, when it gets hot. Strong, smart, sophisticated, and pleasant. I just sit back and take notes of the poise in her mannerisms. Wondering how does she do it? Where does the control come from and how does she master it? What type of classes do she take to have this down to the T? I wonder.
Her mother, a relevant piece to the puzzle for every growing woman. Michelle covers Octobers issue of Essence Magazine. (My Birth Month...awesome) The 1st lady states "If we don’t have the energy, we can’t pass it on. I learned it from watching my own mother (Marian Robinson) not invest in herself, for example. She’s starting to do that. But she came from the tradition of family first. She wouldn’t even go to the hairdresser on a regular basis. I want to show my girls that it is perfectly fine to invest in yourself and to start to do it early, embrace it and not feel guilty about the time we put into ourselves.” She's a role model as well as a mother of two beautiful daughters. Teaching them to invest in themselves is definitely of significance. Michelle also has words and inspiration for all growing women. She says “My story to young people around this country and around the world is: Don’t look at me as the First Lady first; look at me as Michelle Obama, a girl who grew up on the South Side of Chicago. Because I was there, and this is attainable. There is no magic to this. It is hard work….”. Again, that was said with all the right words in the right way. Each time I read up on her she relays some of the most complex messages, in the simplest ways. She also speaks on her role as the "Flotus" in this upcoming issue and being named one of the most influential Black women. She was added to '2011 Power List' along side Jada Pinkett, Oprah Winfrey, Valerie Jarrett and more. She also explains "Why you should put yourself first" in this publication. She speaks on "Girl time" saying "Women energize me. My husband is terrific. He is my true partner. Spending time with him is key…. But it’s also important for us as women to find each other. And there’s that natural reenergizing that happens when women get together. We kind of hold each other up.” I definitely agree with her on that statement. If I was without girlfriends who uplifted me, put back into me what I put out into the world. I would be completely dry. Missing a part of me that I totally enjoy.
I'm actually a bit antsy waiting on this issue. It will be available and on newsstands September 12.
(Patiently waiting)
