Beyonce & Tina Presents: House of Dereon in London "Fashion Week"!

The House of Dereon 2011 Autumn/Winter collection debuted this past Saturday in London. Beyonce states "It's something natural to us". When referring to the clothing line. Tina adds that Beyonce plays the part of the explorer because she gets to travel and see all of the new/hottest trends.

Beyonce backtracks to the "Destinys Child" days, saying how fans would ask "where can we purchase those outfits". But, as a "Destinys Child" fan we all know that Tina was the seamstress behind the wardrobe of those ladies.

The models walked with metallic lines, feathers, bold lips and HUGE pieces as accessories, that added a global look to the collection. "Global Nomad Collection" is what the ladies call their presentation of this seasons apparel. They used different ideas and influences from across the globe but still keeping it cool for everyday ventures. Of course, they walked to "Run The World" Beyonce's 1st single off of her newly released album #4 !!!

"Trendsetter, Sexy/Confident and not afraid to make a statement". Those are the three words Beyonce chose to describe "The House of Dereon". She also states that "the women in London are more adventurous with fashion and they touch certain pieces that American women maybe too cautious to touch". She speaks on Kate Moss being of some influence when thinking of ideas for the new designs.  I'm excited about what's to come NEXT from Beyonce. Well, we know the baby bump is the "talk of the town". But, I'm thinking about business. She has been in a "girl group", went solo and sold millions of records. She's crushed the BIG screen and showed us her acting skills. Clothing, shoe and accessory line. What's NEXT! Bey?

Tina and Beyonce walk hand and hand after the showing of their new collection. A mother's love and support!  Since, Destinys Child days Tina has been there. I'm sure that's an awesome feeling to experience on both ends. Mother and Daughter. There is nothing greater!

Check out this video for more info and the whole story to my quotes above.

Happy Birthday: Jada Pinkett Smith

I just wanted to say "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" to the awesome Jada Pinkett Smith. This past weekend Jada turned 40 yrs old. (I can"t tell!!!) :-)
The Hollywood chameleon doesn't look a day over 20. Jada who's a Baltimore native has blossomed to be a great actress, artist, wife, mother and all around business woman. I remember her on "A Different World". The sassy, I do what I want Baltimore attitude. Ms. Lena Jones :-)
Oh! I can not forget about her supporting role in "Jason's Lyric". She was still a head strong woman, driving to become better in life. Even tho, I probably was a tad to young to be watching this film. It is one of my favorites from Jada's collection of work.

She has timeless beauty. Poise, the type of swag that talks for her. I mean what else is there to say? She's one of the TOP women in the industry. She has a wide portfolio that includes movies from Jason's Lyric to The Matrix Reloaded.
But, my number favorite is when she played "Stoney" in "Set It Off". I was the type to watch this movie 2 and 3 times a day. Between "Frankie" and "Stoney" I didn't know who's shoes I would've walked in. It's just one of those movies that you makes you say "If that was me"...ha! I was also amazed by Jada's character. She had responsibilities and was not going to lose her footing for anything but family. Which is awesome.
A renaissance woman, maybe? A role model? A public figure? I'm not sure what your answers will be but I'm sure of mine. :-)

Jada is an aritst. This photo is from a live performance with her band "Wicked Wisdom". They were giving a set on Britney Spears "Onyx Hotel Tour" in 2004. Later, they landed a spot on the Ozzfest. Sharon Osbourne was one of many supporters.
Hawthorne!!! #ThatIsAll
I did a post on my tumblr and I received good feedback. The TNT television series was electric. (to say the least) Jada does it again.

The Smith's.
Will, Jada, Trey, Jaden and Willow.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY "JADA PINKETT SMITH"....

Mayoral Election: Location Location Location

Good Afternoon,

Very seldom do I talk politics. (It's such a touchy subject) But, I was up just browsing the Internet on a search for more "Girl Power". Then it dawns on me that we have an election coming up in my hometown of Baltimore.

A Mayoral Election. Before I get started, I would like to say "I wish not express my personal choice and who I will vote for and for what reasons" but I will state i am big on "Women of Power" and things that strong black women actual bring to the table on any level.

It's interesting to me that former mayor Sheila Dixon is no longer in office of financial issues. (Sigh, pause, exhale, raises one finger, then thinks deeply before I even express those hidden thoughts)

The resignation of S. Dixon led to a sworn in Stephanie Rawlings-Blake on February 4, 2010. She was City Counsel President since November 2007. Rawlings-Blake has an extensive history in Baltimore politics. She's a Baltimore native, born and raised. I'm sure that some of you are thinking, hoping or wondering if she'll win for those reasons. Well, it's a tough run this go round. No resignations, not many problems to straighten up, and a worthy opponent.

Catherine Pugh, a Morgan State University graduate. A Baltimore resident and she also has an extensive background in politics, including City Counsel. Pugh who is still a Maryland state Senator and apart of the Democratic party, was not born in Pennsylvania. This is one of many issues circling why many voters have an issue with this candidate. Why? I'm not quite sure, I thought it was "the Best 'Wo'Man for the Job gets The Job"? Are we stuck on the small things and not getting the big picture? Like, who has a better plan for our schooling systems? What's the safety plan? How will keep the crime rate down or actions will be taking? Emergency plans (I mean we do have earthquakes and hurricanes...now). Snow removal plans, ideas to lower the unemployment rate, how will they solve the issues with the budget. Entertainment laws, I mean the list goes on and on. Let's not get caught up in the "who was here first or longer" concept.

Rawlings-Blake has brought us through tough stages, yes! she picked up where someone else left off, she has put heads and tails to a lot of things. But, no one stated what part the 'people' played in that. True, she is well seasoned in Baltimore's surrounds and history. she graduated from Baltimore Western High School. She left the state to go Oberlin College in Ohio and earned her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Political Science. she later went to University of Maryland School of Law and received her Juris Doctor in 1995.

I gave brief history on both to show that neither one of the front runners in this election spent their whole life in Baltimore. I also provided this information to have 'us' see that there are more important things then the location that these women come from. We have larger issues. Bigger problems and greater goals. So let's focus solely on those things and make our choices accordingly.

To close out, I would also like to add that there were other candidates up to run with decent views and future plans. But, there was no attention paid to them because of this rivalry. Learn your history and last but not least. We are all Women of Power!

ROCK the VOTE!!!!!

Flotus: Michelle Obama Covers Essence Magazine

First, I would like to say hello and welcome to my blog. I wanted to open up with a post that would give a piece of me. I didn't have much to say about myself. So, I chose a post that would at least express some part of me. You will see a few if not many post on the following subject/person. OK, I'm just going to get right into it.

Oh, where do I start? Should I let you guys know that I probe the 1st lady like I'm the sun and she's the earth? No, that sounds scary. LOL. But, I am, well I don't want to say a fan but an admirer. I appreciate her grace and the way that she handles her plate. Even, when it gets hot. Strong, smart, sophisticated, and pleasant. I just sit back and take notes of the poise in her mannerisms. Wondering how does she do it? Where does the control come from and how does she master it? What type of classes do she take to have this down to the T? I wonder.

Her mother, a relevant piece to the puzzle for every growing woman. Michelle covers Octobers issue of Essence Magazine. (My Birth Month...awesome) The 1st lady states "If we don’t have the energy, we can’t pass it on. I learned it from watching my own mother (Marian Robinson) not invest in herself, for example. She’s starting to do that. But she came from the tradition of family first. She wouldn’t even go to the hairdresser on a regular basis. I want to show my girls that it is perfectly fine to invest in yourself and to start to do it early, embrace it and not feel guilty about the time we put into ourselves.” She's a role model as well as a mother of two beautiful daughters. Teaching them to invest in themselves is definitely of significance. Michelle also has words and inspiration for all growing women. She says “My story to young people around this country and around the world is: Don’t look at me as the First Lady first; look at me as Michelle Obama, a girl who grew up on the South Side of Chicago. Because I was there, and this is attainable. There is no magic to this. It is hard work….”. Again, that was said with all the right words in the right way. Each time I read up on her she relays some of the most complex messages, in the simplest ways. She also speaks on her role as the "Flotus" in this upcoming issue and being named one of the most influential Black women. She was added to '2011 Power List' along side Jada Pinkett, Oprah Winfrey, Valerie Jarrett and more. She also explains "Why you should put yourself first" in this publication. She speaks on "Girl time" saying "Women energize me. My husband is terrific. He is my true partner. Spending time with him is key…. But it’s also important for us as women to find each other. And there’s that natural reenergizing that happens when women get together. We kind of hold each other up.” I definitely agree with her on that statement. If I was without girlfriends who uplifted me, put back into me what I put out into the world. I would be completely dry. Missing a part of me that I totally enjoy.

I'm actually a bit antsy waiting on this issue. It will be available and on newsstands September 12.
(Patiently waiting)
